About These Courses

Introduction to IT and A+ Certification Exam Prep

This course prepares those with little or no Information Technology (IT) experience and interested in taking the CompTIA A+ Certification Exam which can lead to entry-level support positions in IT such as a Help Desk Specialist, IT Support Specialist, and IT Business Analyst.

This course is fully online with live online meetings.

Prerequisite

  1. This course is completely online and participants will need basic computer literacy skills such as uploading and downloading files from the Internet and PC operating system navigation skills.
  2. Participants should also have reliable internet access, and Internet usage skills including accessing the Internet and navigating web pages.

 

Cyber Fundamentals and Security+ Certification Exam Prep

This course is to prepare those interested in developing entry-level skills, knowledge and ability to protect and defend the network systems in a cybersecurity environment and interested in taking the CompTIA Security + Certification Exam which can lead to an entry-level position such as an Information Security Analyst. Cybercrime is one of the most significant and evolving threats to our ever-changing digital environment.

This course is fully online with live online meetings.

Prerequisite

  1. 1-2 years prior IT experience.
  2. Successfully passed the Comp TIA A+ or IT Fundamentals Certification Exam or successfully passed the Introduction to IT and A+ Certification Exam Prep course offered at Kapiʻolani Community College.
  3. This course is completely online and participants will need basic computer skills such as uploading and downloading files from the Internet, and PC operating system navigation skills.
  4. Participants should also have reliable internet access, Internet usage skills including accessing the Internet and navigating web pages.

Course Format

  • Fully online courses with weekly live online sessions will be required to attend.
  • These courses are not self-paced and lessons will become available to you on specific dates.
  • Each lesson includes readings, videos, quizzes, and assignments.
  • Students should anticipate spending 3-8 hours a week attending online live sessions and completing readings and course assignments.

What Can I Do After The Completion of the Course?

Introduction to IT and A+ Certification Exam Prep

Upon successfully completing this course with a grade of C or higher, students will be eligible to receive an exam voucher for the CompTIA A+ Certification Exam. The CompTIA A+ Certification is the first certification anyone should obtain to start a career in the information technology industry.

The A+ Certification can help students obtain jobs such as support specialist, field service technician, desktop support analyst and help desk technician.

Cyber Fundamentals

Upon successfully completing this course with a grade of C or higher, students will be eligible to receive an exam voucher for the CompTIA Security+ Certification Exam.

The content of this course is based on the National Initiative Cybersecurity Education Workforce Framework and graduates would qualify for jobs under the “Operate and Maintain” section. Graduates who successfully pass the certification exam could lead to a position as a Systems Security Analyst but may also qualify as a Networks Operations Specialist, Technical Support Specialist, and System Administrator.
