The Culinary Institute of the Pacific has recently launched a new way to teach members of the HARIETT (Hotel and Restaurant Industry Employment and Training Trust) to become better chefs while staying at home with online, live instruction. Adapting to the new norm, Continuing Education program coordinator, Dante Camara, has brought an innovative way to instruct to the table.
Dante stated “We decided to ensure our students had exactly what they needed to succeed so we packaged up all the ingredients, ensuring sanitation of course, and handed them off their classroom supplies curbside.”
After the students make the pickup, the students then engage in a live online video stream session with Chef Tiffanie Masutani of the CIP where they learn new techniques to the betterment of their careers.. This is just one example of community educators overcoming current obstacles and thriving during these uncertain times. Kapi‘olani Community College Continuing Education plans to roll out a similar online cooking program to the public in the coming weeks to keep all of Hawaiʻi cooking.
