Global Learning & Development Faculty and Staff with Kehaulani Kam at the Sheraton Waikiki.

Congratulations, Kehau!

Our staff would like to congratulate Advisory Council member, Thelma “Kehaulani” Kam, Director of Cultural Services at Starwood Hotels & Resorts Waikiki. Kehaulani was recognized by the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association in July for her years of contribution and assistance with their annual Charity Walk.”

Global Learning & Development’s Advisory Council provides us with the necessary guidance and feedback to keep current with workforce training needs. Kehaulani has served on our council since its inception, as well as participates on the board for KCC’s Hospitality Department.

She recently hosted our staff to a tour of the Starwood Waikiki properties. In addition to seeing the hotels, we learned about branding, customer expectations, service standards, as well as the importance of training to achieve excellence in service delivery. Through this experience, we observed the value of “Foundations of Hawaii”, a course we offer on Hawaiian history, language and culture, as well as the importance of the course, “Servicing the Global Customer”, due to the variety of guests who stay at their properties. We also met various staff members and experienced their warm display of “Ho`okipa” or Hawaiian hospitality.

We have worked with Kehaulani in past years to conduct training for their staff and associates on “Ho`okipa Me Ke Aloha”, a customer service program based on Hawaiian language and culture, as well as Chinese language and culture training. We appreciate Kehaulani’s support of our global and learning development efforts and wish her continued success!
